Total Ban On Supermarket Sales In England

By Ash Davidson

Over the past few weeks there has been alot of discussions within the media and between government parties about sale prices in England. Over 2 months ago Scotland announced that all sale items of alcohol will be banned. This means that any BOGOF offers will no longer be purchased in Scotland to limit the amount of drinkers. Scotland has one of the world highest population of drinkers and this is one of the methods used hopefully to bring this number down. However I and alot of other people want this in England too.

I am not a big drinker, I like to have a drink but that's it, it does not interest me in the slightest. I have seen way too many accidents with my friends and family with drink and what it can physically and mentally do to you. I think that we should live in a society where drinking mass amounts of alcohol within a house environment is more accepted compared to the past, with all local pubs shutting due to the recession this has caused the number to increase.

The amount of alcohol in a drink is measured in units. One unit is 10 ml or 8g of pure alcohol. The size and strength of your drink will determine the number of units it contains.

You can work out the number of units in your drink with this handy sum:

Strength (ABV) x Volume (ml) ÷ 1000 = No. of units. For example, a strong pint of lager would be: 5.2 (ABV) x 568 (ml in a pint) ÷ 1000 = 2.95 units.

Guidelines for drinking is also different if you are either male or female for example Female 2-3 units or less and for a Male 3-4 units or less. Refraining on one day should not mean excess on another. If you choose to drink when you’re pregnant or planning to become pregnant, you should consume no more than 1-2 units of alcohol once or twice a week. It does not take alot to go over your weekly limit in one night with alcohol, the amount of people that do go out and get a belly full easily passes the guidelines, this is called binge drinking, where you don't drink for a couple of days or even weeks then have a massive blow out. This is wrong this causes increased damages to your body and could infect you in more ways than one!

I run my own drug addiction website, I am calling all readers to give me your opinion on this no matter where you are from, is it wrong for alcohol to be alot cheaper in the supermarkets compared to in a pub or a club? My honest opinion is there should be a set price for everywhere, everywhere has to respect the same price given by the brand of the drink, this will be and is the only fairest way.

I hope you get back to me on this by this link on my new forum. http://www.myroutetohelp.com/alcohol-support/total-ban-on-alcohol-sale-prices-in-the-uk/ Although its a new forum I would like to see a discussion taking place

University student studying Policing & Community Safety and also work in the retail sector for some extra month. I am a volunteer drug-worker and this is what I crave do in the future. By been a volunteer it motivated me to make the website www.myroutetohelp.co.uk I set this website up in the summer 2011. Its grew massively and changed direction many times. I wanted a website which offers basic drug and addiction knowledge and for people to share their own stories of addiction to others. Recently I have created a message board for my website on www.myroutetohelp.com

The latest advice by some doctors is to have 2 or 3 days 'alcohol free' each week. It's sad that we have this binge culture in the UK when in parts of the rest of Europe they are more moderate with their use of alcohol without the drunken behaviour we get here.
